About Us: For Christians and non-Christians
CAA is THE place for Christians who love anime! We are a non-denominational organization dedicating to providing a safe, Christian environment for the discussion of anime and manga. We recognize that not everyone who visits our site shares our religious beliefs. We respect your choice and ask that you also respect ours as well. We regularly have visitors from various backgrounds that enjoy discussing their favorite titles in a place that does not allow trolling, advertising, flaming or pornography. At CAA, we require all members, regardless of belief system to abide by our board rules and treat everyone with courtesy and respect. All are welcome to join, learn from, and participate in this community.

Posting: Etiquette, Editing, and Deleteing
Think before you post
CAA is THE place for Christians who love anime. We expect you to be respectful of other peoples' opinions and beliefs. We also expect a certain level of maturity out of our members. Don't *ever* post something you would not want someone else to read. Don't post in anger. Remember Mith's cardinal rule of posting on the Internet: "If you have time to write your post, you have time to READ your post!" If you have a habit of posting things that annoy other people, please change your posting habits. We believe this is an opportunity for you to grow and mature. Besides, if you are consistently a jerk, you'll probably get banned.

Editing your post
Because the staff of CAA does not monitor every post before it is published, we expect you to act with a modicum of intelligence when you post. We do not allow posts to be edited after a certain amount of time. To allow users to correct minor typos (you are proofreading before submitting, right?), there is a short window after a post is made during which you may edit it. Substantive changes to your post are generally frowned upon.

Deleting your post
Due to abuse of the delete function in the past, CAA no longer allows user to delete their posts. Due to staff shortages, the staff also do not delete users' posts for them. We apologize for this inconvenience, but please note that nothing you have ever posted on the Internet can be permanently removed. Data stays stuck in server and browser caches. Data can be downloaded to end-users' computers. Web crawler can retain data for historic/comparison issues. And, of course, don't forget the way back machine at http://www.archive.org/.

Forum Rules
General rules, guidelines and policy information pertaining to CAA as both a ministry and a forum:

Flaming and Trolling - Flaming is defined as a personal attack on another CAA member. Trolling is deliberately posting controversial material in order to stir up strife. Both types of behavior are destructive to the community and are therefore not tolerated.
Politics- Political threads and posts will be closed if posted. Politics has nothing to do with Christianity or anime, our two primary topics, and furthermore only causes opportunity for division within our community. In short, there's simply no positive purpose for them here.
Multiple Accounts - Multiple accounts are forbidden on these forums. We periodically check the logs and can generally spot multiple accounts fairly easily. If you are found out, your accounts may be disabled and a ban issued on your IP address.
Profanity - Offensive language, images or links have no place on a Christian forum and will therefore not be tolerated here.
Theology Debates - These are strongly discouraged on these forums, due to their destructive effect on the community. If you want to discuss such things, we recommend that you check out TheologyWeb.
Promotion/Advertising - You are free to promote your own website in the Links section. However, commercial advertising is not permitted on these forums and will be dealt with accordingly.
Sales - In conjunction with our promotion/advertising rules, we ask that you do not post about any material or goods you may be selling, which include but are not limited to links for Ebay auctions, Yahoo auctions, xanga listings, cafepress areas or other providers of print material.
Spam - If you feel like spamming, do it in the Goof Off forum. Please do not post in a disruptive manner. This includes replying to your own threads repeatedly, flooding a forum with new threads, or having a particularly long signature. Spam also includes re-using the same "canned post" repeatedly on different threads, or cross-posting over different forums. Depending on the extent, we may edit or delete your posts, edit or blank your signature, or temp-ban you.
Flirting - CAA is an anime board, not a singles board. If you spend all your time flirting, your account will be suspended. If the administration receives complaints about excessive flirting, whether on the main board or in the chat, appropriate action will be taken.
Creative Writing - needs to be generally clean. No excessive gore or violence, but a little blood isn't frowned on. Just don't be overly descriptive. We don't want to know what sound someone's innards made oozing out to the floor, etc.
Spoilers - If you are going to post spoilers, please use spoiler brackets. Instructions on how to use these can be found in the Comment Box.
Anime and Manga Reviews - These must be approved by an admin or mod before being posted in the review forum.
Inappropriate Links - Posting of illicit or inappropriate links, even in the attitude of warning others, is not permitted.
Personal information - Do not solicit personal information on board. If we find you are seeking said information, such as home address, telephone number, etc., for any reason, this is grounds for banning.
Signature Images - CAA does not allow sig images which are wider than 500px or taller than 100px T.his is to prevent the web display from being "broken." Users with excessively long signatures will automatically have their signatures placed into a scroll box. Consider joining "MOES" (search for it) if you would like assistance with your signature.
Cosmology Debates - Unfortunately, after too many creation/evolution debates, this is no longer a topic allowed for discussion at CAA.

Linking illegal downloads or scanlations - For liability reasons, the policy of CAA is no links to sites hosting or supporting fansubs/scanlations on the forums. You may not ask for them or give them except via PM. Copyright law applies regardless of if the series has been licensed in the United States or your native country.

Please note that we reserve the right to delete posts or edit posts as we see fit, such as taking out things that are inappropriate or applying spoiler brackets where necessary.

Consequences of breaking the rules
The CAA operates via a three-strike system. The first offense is a "strike" that counts against a member. On the second strike the offending member is banned for a week. After this week the ban is lifted, but if they do something strike worthy again, they are banned for good.

In addition to the three strike system, we will ban immediately anyone who seriously breaks the rules. This decision is solely up to the staff member(s) who make it. Most of the time it's based upon whether we think you are a genuine member who caused offense by mistake, or some who is deliberately trying to cause trouble (a troll).

Terms Dictionary
The terms below are words/phrases you are likely to come across as you browse this website. Please note that some of these terms may be archaic. We include them here for consistencies sake. Also note that some of the uses may not necessarily track how they are used on other sites. AMV - Anime Music Video. Typically combines footage from one or more anime with music to convey a certain theme. The reader is encouraged to search Youtube for a practically unending supply of examples.
Anime - Anime is the Japanese word for animation. Many are Japanese cartoons, ranging between 30 to 60 minutes in length and episodic (meaning they’re like American television shows). There are also full-length movies. Anime can range from G-rated children's shows to basically animated pornography.
Bishoujo - means "pretty girls." Basically, any show that features cute females.
Bishounen - means "pretty boy." Occasionally abbreviated as "bishi." Basically, any show that features cute males, but the term "bishi" frequently refers to a specific cute male character.
Chibi - When the artists depicts a character in a smaller, usually cuter version than their regular appearance. Bigger heads, larger eyes, shorter torsoes and legs. Usually used in humorous situation or to make a situation funny.
Cosplay - Short for Costume play. When fans (usually at a convention) dress up as an anime or video game character.
Dubbed - When a company pays English-speaking (or any language other than Japanese) voice actors to 'dub' over the Japanese voices for release.
Fan dub - A Fan Dub is the term used to describe videotapes, DVDs, or video files created by a group of volunteers who copy/download original Japanese anime shows, translate them, hire or provide actors (usually other volunteers) to provide voice cast for the characters, and then re-release. Typically only done with shows that have not been bought by Western companies. Depending on the country in which they are released, these releases are not typically legal.
Fanfic - short for "fan fiction": a story written by a fan involving either original characters or the show's own characters in the fan's own plot line.
Fan service - anything erotic or provocative added to a show merely to please the coarse audience. Example: a “convenient” camera angle that emphasis a female’s anatomy, a sudden unexplained event that rips off clothing, etc.
Fan sub - when a group of volunteers download original Japanese anime shows, translate them, and then re-release. Typically only done with shows that have not been bought by Western companies.
Hentai - Literally: "pervert." Typically used to describe media of a pornographic nature, but can basically describe any sexually descriptive fanfic, website, etc.
Japanimation (archaic) - another term for anime.
Lemons, Limes - fanfics with really descriptive sexual scenes.
Lolicon/Lolita - hentai/pornography featuring young girls.
Manga - Commonly compared to Japanese comic books, manga is the print form of anime. In fact, many anime originate from successful manga.
Mecha - a humongous robot with loads of weaponry and computer-stuff; often piloted by a skilled human. Mobile Suit Gundam is one of the more popular series of this genre.
Moe - Literally "budding." (Occasionally seen as Moé). This term is frequently misused, which has lead to a rather open-ended set of meanings. Originally moe referred to the "budding" feelings of affection the audience would develop for a character. Most widely used to refer to female characters that are presented in such a way as to cause the audience to become emotionally attached. For example, a cute young girl who is abused by older siblings.
OAV/OVA - original animated video/original video animation. Anime released (usually as sequels) on the at-home market. Similiar to Disney's direct-to-video releases.
Shotacon - hentai/pornography featuring young males.
Subbed - Short for Subtitled. When a company releases Anime with English captions and the original Japanese seiyuu/voice actors.
Super Deformed/SD - See Chibi.
Yaoi/(Bi)Shounen Ai - means "boy's love." When one or more characters are homosexual.
Yuri/Shoujo Ai - where a female character is lesbian.

Account Maintenance
Deleting your old account
Due to staffing limitations and administrative headaches, CAA does *not* allow the deleting of old accounts. If you don't want something to exist on the internet permanently, DON'T POST IT. You agreed to this when you signed up for your account and we expect you to act accordingly. (Besides, even if we did delete your account, everything you've posted is still out there on the internet somewhere anyway so it wouldn't make a big difference).

Phantom Accounts
Any user account which is created, but never used will be regarded as a phantom account, and may be deleted after 1 month.

Unconfirmed Accounts
To register for an account on CAA, you must respond to an email message you are sent within two weeks. If you have not responded to the account within two weeks, we will assume that your account was created erroneously and may delete it accordingly.

Clubs
While CAA has historically allowed some member-organized clubs on the boards, we tend to be wary of them in the very least because it toes the line on unneccessary division and cliques within a site that strives to bring fellow believers together. However, should you like to propose a club, the following steps must be taken:

  1. You MUST PM a staffer with your proposal BEFORE starting a thread about it.
  2. In your proposal, state the general purpose of the club, club activities/topics, plans you have for the club, and reasons why you feel CAA needs this club.
  3. Once you have approval, you may follow the direction of the staffer involved to create your club thread and carry on. However, if at any time the staff feels a club is no longer necessary, fruitful, or fulfilling its purpose we reserve the right to edit or disband the club.

Disclaimers and Legalities
Your use of the forum constitutes agreement with the following legally binding terms:

  1. You are at least 13 years old. Due to issues over child privacy laws, we cannot offer membership to users under the age of 13. Misrepresentation (ie, lying about your age) is cause for immidate account suspension. Please review the COPPA regulations (try google'ing it) for additional information.
  2. You agree to follow the Forum Rules as stated above with your replies and new threads you may post.
